Dr Divgi is Director, Nuclear Medicine and PET and Vice-Chair, Research, Department of Radiology at Columbia University.
After graduating from St. John’s Medical College in Bangalore, India, in 1976, Dr. Divgi went to the Radiation Medicine Center, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay, India, where he obtained a Diploma in Radiation (Nuclear) Medicine in 1978. He subsequently worked at the Jaslok Hospital & Research Centre in Bombay.
Dr. Divgi joined the University of Pennsylvania as Chief of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Molecular Imaging in May 2006. While there, Dr. Divgi revitalized the Nuclear Medicine Division, and was responsible for the growth of PET/CT at Penn (from no PET/CT in 2006 to 3 state-of-the-art machines in 2010 studying over 6500 patients annually). He was also responsible for the growth and development of the cyclotron/radiochemistry program, and was awarded a NCRR high-end instrumentation grant for an isotope production cyclotron.
Dr. Divgi came to Columbia University in April 2011, where he has rejuvenated the PET/CT program and instituted a comprehensive University-wide IND center that has successfully obtained approval for numerous agents used in neuroscience and oncology research.
In addition to his scientific accomplishments, Dr. Divgi has also been keenly involved in educational and policy initiatives, in particular the successful integration of diverse Investigational New Drug applications into one center, under his supervision, that was responsible for all IND applications utilizing radiopharmaceuticals at Penn and now at Columbia.
