Dr. John Beyer is an Professor of Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center.   He serves as the medical director for the Duke Mood Disorders Clinic and the Duke Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic, and is Vice Chair of the Duke Private Diagnostic Clinics for Psychiatry.  

Dr. Beyer's research interests have been focused on the neurobiology and treatment of mood disorders.  He is the author of numerous research articles on mood disorders and best clinical practices, as well as the author of a treatment manual for the use of Electroconvulsive Therapy.  Dr. Beyer directs an active clinical trials program in bipolar disorders, depressive disorders, and Alzheimer's disease.  He has also been the primary investigator in three NIMH-supported research projects investigating bipolar and depressive disorders in late life. 

Dr. Beyer maintains an active practice and consultation service, and has directed the Advanced Psychopharmacology course for psychiatric residents.
