Dr. Phillips is Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Phillips graduated Summa Cum Laude from Dartmouth College and received her medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. She completed her residency at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Phillips is an internationally recognized researcher and expert on body dysmorphic disorder. She has also conducted research on obsessive-compulsive disorder and other disorders. Her research has been continuously funded by the National Institute of Mental Health since 1995. Dr. Phillips has received numerous honors and awards for her research, research mentoring, and other academic accomplishments, including a Special Presidential Commendation from the American Psychiatric Association for her research accomplishments.

Dr. Phillips has more than 260 publications and has authored or edited eight books. She has given more than 450 invited presentations in the U.S. and abroad.

Dr. Phillips was Chair of the DSM-5 Work Group on Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum, Post-Traumatic, and Dissociative Disorders, and she was a member of the DSM-5 Task Force. She is on the scientific advisory boards of the Anxiety Disorders Association of America and the International OCD Foundation, and she serves on a number of editorial boards. From 2002-2006, she chaired the National Institute of Mental Health’s Interventions Research Review Committee (Scientific Review Group). Dr. Phillips is a Fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, a member of the American College of Psychiatrists, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. She has repeatedly been included in Best Doctors in America and Castle Connolly’s America’s Top Doctors.
