Dr Frye is Chair of the Department of Psychology and Psychiatry at the Mayo Clinic and Director of the Mayo Clinic Depression Center in Rochester, Minnesota.
Dr. Frye received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed his psychiatric training at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. He completed a subsequent research fellowship in the Biological Psychiatry Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) in Bethesda, Maryland, where his research focused on the neurobiology of depression and bipolar disorder. From 1998 to 2006, he served as Director of the UCLA Bipolar Disorder Research Program. His clinical interests are in mood disorders (bipolar disorder, treatment resistant depression) with a research focus in clinical trials, pharmacogenomics, and brain imaging.
Dr. Frye has received numerous honors and awards both as an educator and researcher, including the 2011 Mogens Schou Award for Education from the International Society for Bipolar Disorder; 2 Mayo Clinic Rome Mentorship Awards for 2011 and 2012; 3 UCLA departmental medical student and resident teaching awards; and the Gerald Klerman Young Investigator Award from the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.
