Rachel Upthegrove, MBBS, Professor of Psychiatry, University of Birmingham

Rachel is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Birmingham, and Consultant Psychiatrist in the Birmingham Early Intervention Services. Her research Interest is particularly the identification of underlying mechanisms and treatment of co-morbidity in early phases of schizophrenia. Recent projects include the investigation of inflammatory models of psychosis as potential treatment targets, and the use of data science to develop stratification in the heterogeneous, early phases of developing mental ill health.

Rachel is NIHR CRN Specialty Lead for the West Midlands, Council Member of the British Association for Psychopharmacology and Deputy Editor for the British Journal of Psychiatry.
