Psychiatry Update 2017

Jointly provided by Global Medical Education and the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine. 

The GME Psychiatry Update series of 10 meetings will highlight the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic issues in patients with bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, TD, schizophrenia, insomnia and more. This meeting offers up to 6 hours of CME/CE credits.

This activity is provided by educational grants from Merck, Neurocrine Biosciencs, Shire and Sunovion.  Please note, as these are local one-day meetings, we do not offer discounted room rates at the meeting hotels.  In addition, as the same content is presented in each city, you may only claim CME/CE credit for one meeting from this series.

Program Overview

The GME Psychiatry Update series of 10 meetings will highlight the latest advances in diagnostic and therapeutic issues in patients with bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, TD, schizophrenia, insomnia and more. This meeting offers up to 6 hours of CME/CE credits. This will include reasons for missed diagnosis, changes in DSM-5, and comorbidities. The latest advances in treating all phases of the illness including treatment resistant patients, non-pharmacological therapies, side effects of psychotropics and strategies to make patients active collaborators in their care will be discussed.


Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, registered nurses, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals who treat patients with psychiatric illnesses.

Educational Objectives

After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:

 • Discuss the diagnosis and management of bipolar disorders, TD, insomnia, schizophrenia and postpartum depression in psychiatric patients
 • Individualize treatment choices, giving consideration to efficacy, safety, long-term data, and unique patient characteristics
 • Formulate appropriate treatment regimens considering the emergence of new investigative agents
 • Provide accurate and appropriate care and counsel as part of the treatment team.
 • Provide appropriate care and counsel for patients and their families

Continuing Psychology Education

Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.  PIM maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

This program offers 6.0 continuing education credits for psychologists.


Continuing Nursing Education

Postgraduate Institute for Medicine is accredited with distinction as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

This educational activity for 6.0 contact hours is provided by Postgraduate Institute for Medicine. Pharmacotherapy contact hours for Advance Practice Registered Nurses to be determined.

 

California Board of Registered Nursing

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 13485, for 6.0 contact hours.

A statement of credit will be issued only upon receipt of a completed activity evaluation form and will be emailed to you within three weeks.

For Pharmacists: Upon receipt of the completed activity evaluation form, you will receive an email from [email protected] within 3 weeks with a link and directions to submit your credit to the NABP CPE Monitor Service.
